Well being and Physical exercise Visualization

The main idea of this project is to 'Bring information to life', including me, 4 students from the University of Auckland has formed a team to complete this project. We are all skilled at different areas but coincidentally none of us are good at picking names so we decided our team will be called 'LAWN', the first letter of our names.
As a team we decided to focus on promoting wellness and physical activity. First comes research, I was in charge of researching the problem. I focused on researching the trend of the rates of physical exercise over the years and what may ave influenced these changes. I also looked into obesity. Then we began gathering data to see what problems others have, through our survey it was obvious that the reason for exercise for most people is due to appearance.
With this in mind I created an empathy map, information comes from a friend who is currently trying to lose weight.

From these information we began brainstorming and producing concept drawing, attempted to do some very quick hand sketches but I think I much prefer nice clean digital art.




After a meeting with our supervising teacher we decided to move forward with the Tetris design. Because I didn't like my hand sketches I went back to my friend Wacom and Photoshop.

After further discussion about the details we were able to create a 3D prototype and physical prototype, if you read my previous blog post on my last project you probably realized that CAD was my worst fear so I'm really glad that there is someone in the team who is really skilled with this program. The outcome was pretty impressive in my opinion.

Overall the biggest part of this project is working together as a team, it took us a little longer than we hoped for to get along but think we overcame the problem pretty well as was able to discover each others strengths and weaknesses. For the project, at the beginning I think we focused too much on how to combine technologies and apps into the project but the main goal is to produce a physical product. A discovery after looking back at the process is that we simplified the design during every stage and discussion, which to me is a positive point.
