A little self reflection

Through the few weeks of study, I have learnt a lot of new things about myself and me as a designer. When I first joined this course I didn't really know what to expect, which actually was what I wanted because I was unsure about myself as a designer and which pathway I wanted to go. The design courses really opened a new door for me and allowed me to understand and learn more about the unlimited future of designers and that I didn't need force myself to only choose one specific pathway because design is a collaborative and interchangeable career.
Through the projects and exercises I realized some of my weaknesses and strengths. I noticed that I tend to make things more difficult and confusing when there is a much more effortless and effective method. The assignments in DES101 gave me a really good chance to combat this problem, I am very thankful for my classmates and teachers for giving me feedback to continuously improve especially for my Haiku poster 2 project. During the process I also identified typography is also a very obvious weakness for me. The biggest problem I identified in the DES100 class was that I am too attached to my first idea when I brainstorm which sometimes do trap myself into a box. These are the current weaknesses I've identified, I am ready for more problems to arise and excited to remove these problems from my list as I progress and grow as a designer.
On the bright side, I also have many strengths I have demonstrated or are ready to demonstrate. First of all my studies in art really paid off and helped me a lot during my projects, there are quite a lot of overlaps between artistic practices and design practices that I was able to use for my design works. My hobby towards crafting made making prototypes a lot easier and more enjoyable. In the future I would really like to be able to combine Chinese traditional elements into some of my design.
I experienced so many first times in this course, first time using Photoshop, Illustrator, Laser cutter, doing soldering and learning how to use the 3D printer. Can't wait to see what else this course has to offer and what I can bring to the course.
Stay tuned because everything's only going to get better from here.
